This is an exciting and demanding trek in the mighty Annapurna region which offers stunning and incomparable views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges exploring some of the wild glacial areas below Annapurna South. The trek is one of great contrast, encompassing all the features of the area from the terraced village lowlands, through the forests and agricultural areas of the middle hill country, to the glacial basins of the Annapurna Mountains. The trek starts from the sub-tropical Pokhara Valley and passes through paddy fields before gradually ascend through terraced hillsides of wheat and barley, tiny settlements and pristine forests of rhododendron alive with exotic birds and beautiful flowers to the alpine heights of Kopra Ridge. The views are incredible with the colossal ramparts of Dhaulagiri plunging to the misty depths of the Kali Gandakhi - the deepest gorge in the world. The spectacular vista is dominated by Annapurna I (8091m) and Dhaulagiri (8167m), the highest peaks in the region.
As we climb higher above the tree line we enter a fantastic mountain wilderness visited only by local shepherds during the monsoon months beneath the awesome Fang Face of Annapurna 1, where ancient pilgrim trails lead to the sacred waters of Khayer Lake. This unique trek concentrates on the unexplored wilderness around Annapurna South (7237m), a remote and magnificent area that is rarely visited. An exploration of the rugged area below Annapurna South is sure to be the highlight of this trip. This is an adventure for those truly looking for something exciting passing through prosperous villages where western influence is minimal camping underneath some of the most awe inspiring mountain scenery on earth.
