Bhutan is a small landlocked country located in south Asia.  It is located between latitudes 26°N and 29°N, and longitudes 88°E and 93°E bordering China to the north and India to the south, east and west. The area of Bhutan is 38,394 km2 (14,824 sq mi).The land of Bhutan covers mostly of steep and high mountains intersected by a network of speedy rivers.Altitude varies from 200m (660 ft) to the southern foothills to more than 7,000m (23,000 ft) to the northern part. This great geographical diversity connected with equally diverse weather conditions grant to Bhutan's lovely range of bio-diversity and ecosystems. There is a valley named Drangme Chhu at lowest point 98m where the river crosses the border with India.The Torsa,Raidak, Sankosh, and Manas are the main rivers of Bhutan. Most of the population inhabits in the central highlands.

Bhutan is rich in primate life with strange and rare species such as Golden langur, Bengal tiger, Clouded leopard, hispid hare, the Sloth bear, grey langur, tiger, goral. Various kinds of fruit-bearing trees and bamboo help habitat for the Himalayan black bear, red panda, squirrel, sambar, wild pig and barking deer. The alpine dwellers of the great Himalayan range in the north are home to the snow leopard, blue sheep, marmot, Tibetan wolf, antelope, Himalayan musk deer and the takin which is Bhutan's national animal. The endangered wild water buffalo can be found in southern Bhutan. There are more than 770 species of birds including globally endangered white-winged duck, 5400 species of plants have been recorded in Bhutan. The sixty percent area of total area is covered by forest because of the globally appreciated government policy to conserve biodiversity.

Most of the people of Bhutan follow Buddhism which is also a nation religion. Apart from this there are other religions like Hindu, Christian, Muslim but they are less than five percent. The national language of Bhutan is Dzongkha. There are 24 languages currently spoken in Bhutan, all of them in the Tibeto-Burman family, excluding Nepali and Indo-Aryan language.

Bhutan's rich cultural diversity was known to the world only after mid 20th century because of its isolation from the world. Its reach and unique cultural heritage is one of the major factors for attraction of tourists. Bhutan is the first country to ban smoking. It is illegal to smoke or sell tobacco in public in Bhutan. The national dress for men is Gho and for women is Kera. The architecture of Bhutan remains specifically traditional, engaging rammed earth and wattle and daub construction methods, stone masonry, and complex woodwork around windows and roofs. Classic architecture uses no nails or iron bars in manufacture. the Bhutanese cuisine  includes rice, buckwheat, and increasingly maize,pork, beef, yak meat, chicken, and lamb.
