Overview

Everest Base Camp Treks - Everest Base Camp generally refers to two base camps of Mt Everest where north base camp is in Tibet and south is in Nepal at an altitude of 5364m (28°0′26″N 86°51′34″E). These both camps are basic camp sites on Mt Everest that are used by climbers. With the help of yaks, supplies are carried by Sherpas in south base camp. It is the most attractive trekking trails in Himalayas where thousands of trekkers come to trek every year. Because of lack of route, Trekkers usually fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2860m) however trekking to Lukla is also possible.

From lukla, the trail takes north into mountainous Khumbu following the Valley of Dudh Koshi River which is high Sherpa homeland. It takes two days to reach Namche which is the central hub of the area. The trail splits above the Namche (3445m), capital of Sherpa where one way leads to Everest Base Camp and the standpoint of Kala Pattar (7145m) and the other for the Gokyo Lake. From Namche, after trekking two days we can reach to Dingboche (4260m) and again after trekking two days we can reach to the base camp.

Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Route are breathtaking routes that leads to Everest base camp following the lesser rush way. Gokyo lakes are situated in Khumjung village in north-eastern Nepal at the head of the Dudh Koshi River. Gokyo (5000m) is the major climax of the trek which offers amazing scenes of Mount Everest along with other peaks such as Makalu (8463 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m) and Lhotse (8516 m), with 27 mountains of the Khumbu Glacier. The lovely scenes of Gokyo valley can also be enjoyed, along with Tibetan culture. The peaceful turquoise lakes can be observed on the trek to Gokyo. Gokyo Cho ( Dudh Pokhari), is the main lake and Thonak Cho is the largest lake. The trek is very challenging and adventurous so the physical fitness of the trekkers is very significant.
