Overview

Nepal has many trails to ride on. Mountain biking is an incredible way to explore Nepal. There are many dirt roads in Nepal to meet the belief of mountain bikers. You can ride through breathtaking falling with kilometers of beautiful scenery, green rice fields, through tiny villages, along the deep river band gorges, around religious sites passing the streets and along the highways.

The Kathmandu Valley has many great places to ride. It has several roads and trails. It’s a nice way to visit the fascinating towns, temples and Buddha Stupas and Gumbos. Places to visit in Kathmandu valley are Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath, Boudhhanath stupa, Bhaktapur (Dhulikhel, Nagarkot, Nala, , Panauti Namo Buddha, Roshi river, Madhuban, Indreshwor Hindu temple), Lalitpur(Lakuri Bhanjyang, Patan, Patan Durbar Square, Sisneri. Besides Kathmandu there are many other places to explore such as Pokhara-Damauli (Sarangkot, Phewa Lake, British Gorkha's Camp,Mahendrapul, Lhachok, Ghachok, Bhurjung khola, Gupteswor cave, Hemja, Tal Barahi, Vindhyabasini temple, World peace stupa), Gorkha (Manakamana temple, Kalikasthan,Bijaypur khola, Abukhaireni, Dumre, Arughat, Gorakhnath caves, Galchhi, Dhadingbesi).

A good accurate map, Schneider or Nelles Verlag map, is necessary to get around the valley. Some of the mountain biking routes of Nepal are Maharajgunj to Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu - Bhaktapur – Patan, Pokhara city area, Kathmandu - Pokhara - Tansen - Bhairahawa - Chitwan Balazu - Kakani – Balazu etc.

 

 

Itinerary

Mountain Biking Tour Itinerary:

Day 01: Kathmandu to Nagarkot
The mountain biking tour starts from Kathmandu after breakfast and passes through medieval town of Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is an ancient city full of Newari culture, many temples and squares. After exploring Bhaktapur we head to Nagarkot on pitch road passing through steeply terraced rice fields and houses along the trail. If weather permits, we will be able to see the panoramic view of Himalayas from Nagarkot.Overnight at Hotel / Guest House.

Day 02: Nagarkot - Namo Buddha- Dhulikhel
Early morning we have breakfast with sunrise view over the Himalayas. After breakfast we ride downhill leaving Nagarkot to Nala another Newari Village. Then we leave for Dhulikhel on a dirt trail climbing and descending small hill before reaching the holy Buddhist site of Namo Buddha. According to legend it is said that Buddha fed his flesh to a hungry tigress as an offering at this place. After exploring this holy site; we continue our ride towards Dhulikhel. Overnight at Dhulikhel. Enjoy sunrise in the morning.

Day 03: Dhulikhel - Timal Danda – Pauwa
After breakfast our trip continues towards famous Timal Danda, where majority people are Tamang. From top of the Timal Danda we will see fantastic views of Himalyan range and Sun koshi river valley to north and Mahabharat range to south. Once you are on top the trail goes up and down passing through Tamang villages up to Pauwa.

Day 04: Pauwa to Dhulikhel
After breakfast ride begins with Himalayan views on the north side to Timalkot. From Timalkot we take a fantastic downhill dust road to Panchal valley. We cross Small River calls “Ghue Khola” and follow the small track of valley up to Tinpiple of Tamaghat. From here we take the friendly uphill pitched road to Dhulikhel.

Day 05: Dhulukhel to Kathmandu via Lubhu Sisneri
Today we pass through ancient city of Panauti. Indreswor Mahadev Temple in Panauti is the oldest surviving temple in Nepal which is believed to be constructed in 1294A.D. From here we follow small track along the Roshi River. Beyond the town of Madhuban, we enter into a narrow pristine valley ascending 300 m on superb trail to reach the summit of Lakhuri Bhanjyang. This is probably the oldest route east of Kathmandu valley, connecting with Panauti. We then ride the last part of our journey from Lubhu Sisneri to Kathmandu.
