This is a strenuous trek that takes us to the both North and South base of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m), a huge massif situated in the far northeast corner of Nepal at the border of Sikkim and Tibet. The region is one of the pristine high mountain areas in Nepal.
It is a trek into the remote mountain ranges on Nepal’s border with Sikkim and Tibet and explores the area around Mt. Kanchenjunga the third highest mountain in the world. You can see a wide range of scenery from lush, tropical jungle to rhododendron, chestnut, oak forests, agricultural areas and alpine zone at higher altitudes. You will also witness a range of Nepalese culture and life-style from Rai and Limbus to Tibetan Buddhist villages higher up in the mountain.
The trek trail passes through Limbu, Rai and Sherpa villages before reaching an alpine wonderland of majestic peaks finely sculpted by rivers and glaciers enjoying the panoramic views of soaring peaks like; Makalu (27,825ft) and Chamlang (24,000ft). We will continue trek through forests and rhododendron thickets and to the edge of Kanchenjunga glacier until we arrive at the junction of Lhonak Glacier (15,680ft) and north side of Kanchenjunga where you see views of Tent peak, Nepal peak, Cross peak and then the Base Camp Kanchenjunga itself becomes visible. After Pangpema the trek returns to Ghunsa and then crosses the Mirgin La pass over to the south side of Kanchenjunga. After crossing over this pass we visit the yak pastures of Ramche and Oktang from where we can see an impressive views of the south west face of Kanchenjunga. This is a challenging traverse through a region seldom visited in recent years.
