Trekkers rarely visit the remote and wild district of Dolpa though it offers a wonderful chance to experience a landscape and culture far different from that seen in other parts of Nepal because of its remoteness. Located in the far western part of Nepal, the focal point of the area is the Shey Phoksundo National Park. This remote and rugged protected area is both scenically and culturally attractive. It is also the habitat of various rare and endangered plants and wild life species many of them can not be seen anywhere else in the country. Animal species found in the national park are snow leopard, grey wolf and blue sheep. The upper flat valley contains a number of villages mostly inhabited by people of Tibetan origin. The people of this area are simple, very much amicable and warm-hearted with enthralling culture that is basically linked with Tibetan tradition.
There are a number of buddhist and Bon monasteries around and they all are worth visiting. The major attractions of this trek include “Shey Phoksundo National Park" the biggest National Parks of Nepal and “Shey Phoksundo Lake” is another prominent factor of the region which is surrounded by rock, forests, and snow- capped peaks. The area has been described as one of the World's “Natural Hidden Shangri-La". This trek into the restricted inner Dolpo offers a variety condition of trekking trails from maintained and well trodden by local people to lesser used routes over shale and scree with several high pass crossings. This trip is tough one and a reasonable level of fitness is required.
