This low altitude trek is off the beaten trail center on the Arun Valley, in eastern Nepal, located between the Sagarmatha and Makalu-Barun National Parks. This trail links the Khumbu (Everest) region with the unique eco-system of the Arun Valley, and is known as an ancient trade route used by local people of Arun valley to transport agricultural products to Namche Bazaar and Tibet across via the Nangpa la pass.
The region is blessed with an incredible diversity of natural beauties and cultures. The sub-tropical valley floor is densely forested, contrasting with the terraced slopes higher up, which are farmed by villagers of diverse tribal groups. High pastures typify the upper slopes, which border on the Makalu-Barun National Park, an important conservation area for many threatened species.
The trek will start after flying to Tumlingtar (a small village located on a plateau) then follow the trail to Makalu Base Camp used by yak herders and some other trekkers, following a ridge high above the eastern bank of the Arun River, then make the way to a 4,300m plateau on the Thuli Danda from where you can see the stunning wall of Chamlang and other major himalayan peaks. After several days in the wilderness, we descend to reach the community of Walung village. The village is perched on the steep slopes of the Arun Valley, with impressive views towards Makalu. Then we heads towards to Lukla to end our trek.
